“Our Reflection Of Homeschooling”

There are ups and downs, but whatever happens, you have to trust and believe in yourself.

~ Luka Modric

A reflection of this year in homeschooling…

I started of with the quote there are ups and downs, but wherever happens, you have to trust and believe in yourself…Because it resonates with me and I believe it is true.

I have to admit homeschooling has not been easy for me this year… I have spent time wondering if I am helping Asaru to learn and if am I the best person to give him an education… I have Dyslexia and I have struggled in my own education… Even though I have a wealth of qualifications, with my last qualification being an MSc in Consciousness Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology it was through the grace of God that I believe I achieved this qualification… This year I still allowed Asaru to go at his own pace. As well as using a curriculum to help Asaru to develop his English and Maths… We have spent time out in Nature exploring its beauty, visiting different homeschooling groups in Manchester… We have had to spend longer periods of time on a particular subject and incorporate them throughout the day… Asaru has been learning how to type on his laptop, his done creative media on Canva, writing skills, learning the days of the week and telling the time…Egyptian History, video making, learning music, playing instruments, art, poetry, and more.

Overall, I feel that Asaru could have developed more in his reading this year, but joining homeschooling groups and hearing parents share it has helped to learn that children develop in different areas first….

I have learned that homeschooling doesn’t have to be about following a curriculum the child learns in other ways… In one of the homeschooling groups that I am in one of the fundamental points that I have seen is that parents never give up on homeschooling their children no matter if they are having a bad day a bad month or a bad year.

As a minister I have been praying for schools as I feel that schools are still affected by the aftereffects of the pandemic, I think it’s a shame that the government doesn’t support homeschooling parents and I hope and pray that this changes in the coming years… As I foresee in the future that more parents will opt for homeschooling their children…

Honouring Children & Parents with God Satsang

As I am passionate about helping others, I have created a space for homeschooling parents to come join us on a Friday evening called Honouring Children & Parents with God Satsang, which includes prayers by Paramhansa Yogananda and music Swami Kriyananda who have both created schools for children and who were passionate about the education of children and their holistic development. The Satsang is monthly where we focus on Art & Poetry, we also have music, meditation and prayers.

I am aware that not everyone believes in God, so it’s not particularly been easy in reaching out to homeschooling parents… But I trust that we will meet the right parents.

Also here are some short videos of Asaru expressing himself through music and speaking about Jesus.

I am sharing this reflection because one I think it’s important for every parent to reflect on the progress of their children’s development and two if anyone asks for instance local authorities you have an honest reflection of your homeschooling Journey….

Homeschooling your child or children is the greatest gift that we can give to our children… Never give up because of a lack of finances, resources, knowledge or if you are feeling fear of not being good enough… Every moment, every minute, every day and year we will always continue to learn, reflect and grow… We are not school teachers, we are parents that are willing to come out of our comfort zones, know nothing and sacrifice a part of our lives so that we can educate our children in a unique way.

Where we say yes, in supporting them to accept themselves for who they are, and not be like anyone else. So that they can grow aligned to their soul’s highest purpose with wisdom, truth, and confidence at their own pace. With the guidance and the love of their parents…

Blessings & Love
