Chapter 3: Happy Story — Seeing God As The Doer
I went through a tunnel of light and emerged into a big, open space where I was surrounded by a powerful presence. This presence consisted of many souls and emanated pure light, pure golden warmth, pure nurturing comfort, and an overwhelming feeling of love.

I picked a very simple affirmation: “Father, Thou art in me. I am well” Soon I began to feel that it was working on my consciousness even while I slept. After about about six months, I started to feel like a different person; I didn’t have fear anymore.
~ Happy
Love conquers all…. I am no longer afraid. I am getting better physically: tests show it. I walk two miles six times a week, meditate three hours a day, and stay on a very strict diet. I’m giving classes for men, women, and children with AIDS—I’m leaning to serve.

HAPPY’S STORY — SEEING GOD AS THE DOER
When I was nineteen years old and living in Texas, I was critically injured in a hundred-mile-an-hour collision with a drunk driver. As I was being rushed to the hospital by helicopter, I had a heart attack and “died.” I wasn’t on the spiritual path at the time, so I couldn’t have explained very easily what happened next, but I had what I now know to be a near-death expe- rience— left my body.
Happy’s Legacy
IN HER OWN UNIQUE and dramatic way, Happy illumined a path of light for others to follow. Acting as a divine instrument, she deepened our understanding of service and of the true nature of healing. In Happy’s own words: AIDS has come with a message. If we could take a magic pill and be cured, we might continue in our ignorance and not know the beauty of the Higher Self. Whether or not you have a life-threatening disease, why not begin to know yourself right now, so that you can experience the joy of your oneness with God? This is the lesson that AIDS, as a teacher, has brought. When this lesson is learned, we shall all be healed.
