Week 28: Self-Reliance VS. Self-Reliance

Our Affirmation For July

Stanza 7:

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

Matthew 5:8

Blessed are they who live unshakably in the consciousness of inner peace; who emanate peace to everyone whose lives they touch. They shall be hailed as instruments of the Lord.

Rays of One Light: Weekly Commentaries on the

Bible and The Bhagavad Gita

by Swami Kriyananda

The Bhagavad Gita says in the tenth Chapter:

Everyone in this world whose life is glorious, or prosperous, or powerful—know that his achievement is but a little spark from the great sun of My effulgence

In the passage preceding the one that we read last week, Jesus said:

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.  Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

109. Demand to Be Kept Awake and Ready

O Father, if Thou wakest me, how can I ever sleep again? If sleep should steal upon me, wilt Thou awake me? The terrors lurking in the dream‐jungle of life are now forgotten. My sorrow has, by Thy grace, been changed into tears of joy. All my tiny, emotional joys blaze into bliss. My body‐temple is filled with Thy light: Its rays keep the eyes of my wisdom from drooping. I thank Thee, Father, for keeping me always awake and ready!

What inspired me from this week’s reading from the Rays of One Light to share with everyone was…

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

In our meditation, I thought we would spend some time reflecting on

How do we Abide in ourselves? And What did Jesus mean when he said Abide in me, and I in you?

But before we enter into our meditation we will listen to Dare to be Different by Swami Kriyananda

Dare to be Different by Swami Kriyananda

Lyrics

1. Dare to be different!
Dare to be free!
Dare to roam far
Like wind on the sea.
Fly like a gull:
Soar high on the air.
Be strong in your courage
When others despair.

2. Never in anger,
Never in haste,
Go without pride,
Be never abased.
Freedom is yours
If freedom you give—
To all give it freely:
In freedom you’ll live!

3. Mountains that stand up
Tall to the sky
Tell us no dreaming
Is ever too high.
Dare to climb boldly:
Brave that high peak!
You’ll never know failure
If bravely you seek!

4. Dare to be different!
Dare to be free!
Dare to roam far
Like wind on the sea.
Fly like a gull:
Soar high on the air.
Be strong in your courage
When others despair.

Let’s Reflect on the Questions

How do we Abide in ourselves?

What did Jesus mean when he said Abide in me, and I in you?

Let’s Meditate Together in Silence Together…

Aum Peace Amen
